謝謝 Z_Gary 發來的問題。在和學術研究有關的英語文章中，我們常會看到 “survey、research” 和 “investigate” 這三個單字。其中，“survey” 和 “research” 既可以作名詞也可以作動詞；而 “investigate” 只能作動詞，它的名詞形式是 “investigation”。這三個詞作動詞的時候都有 “調查” 的意思，我們重點介紹 “survey、research” 和 “investigate” 的動詞用法。
首先，這三個詞中比較容易理解的是 “survey 調查”，它和 “research、investigate” 明顯不同的一點是：“survey” 強調 “通過分發問卷、撥打電話或直接詢問等手段收集人們對事物的看法、態度、意見，或了解特定人群的行為”。這類 “調查” 大多是 “academic or commercial research 學術、商業研究” 的一部分。比如：

Nearly 80% of the patients surveyed suffered from similar symptoms.
在接受調查的患者中，近百分之八十都有類似症狀。
The company surveyed more than 5,000 customers about their shopping behaviours.
